Privacy Policy

Information You Enter in the App

Everything below is entered by you and stored locally on your iPhone, in the app's own storage area:

• Incomes, expenses, categories, notes and recurring schedules.
• Bills, subscriptions, budgets and savings goals.
• Wallet accounts, cash accounts and bank accounts, including account nicknames and bank names.
• Credit cards, their limits, statement and due dates, and payments you record.
• Preferences such as your first name, app language, currency, salary day, reminder settings and Face ID lock.

Money Mate AI stores only masked account suffixes for bank accounts and cards, in the form •••• 1234. Full IBANs, full account numbers and full card numbers are never stored, even if you type them — the app keeps the last digits for labelling and discards the rest.

What Never Leaves Your Device

• Individual transactions, amounts, dates and titles.
• Merchant names, descriptions and free-text notes.
• Account nicknames, bank names and masked account suffixes.
• Your name, salary day and other profile preferences.

There is no account to create, no cloud sync and no server-side copy of your ledger. If you delete the app, the local records go with it.

AI Assistant

AI data sharing is optional and is off by default. Nothing is sent to any AI service until you turn on Share my finance summary with AI. The app asks you during setup, on its privacy step, and again the first time you open the AI Assistant; on both screens it names what would be sent and names the recipient before you answer.

You can withdraw permission at any time in Settings → Privacy and Security → AI and data sharing. While sharing is off — whether because you have never turned it on or because you have turned it off again — the app makes no request at all, and every AI insight, report comment and assistant reply is written on your device from the same figures. Deleting your data also resets this choice, so you are asked again.

When you have turned it on, each AI request sends an aggregated financial summary through a Firebase Cloud Function, which forwards it to OpenAI. The OpenAI API key is held on the backend and is never shipped inside the app. The summary consists of the following and nothing else:

• The reporting period's start and end dates.
• Total income, total expense and net balance for the period.
• Spending totals grouped by category.
• Upcoming bills total, monthly subscriptions total and total credit card debt.
• Budget usage percentage, daily safe-to-spend limit, month-end forecast and savings goal progress.
• The app's language code, so the answer comes back in the language you are reading, and the goals you chose during setup, so the advice is aimed at them.
• Your question, when you type one into the assistant.

Transaction lists, merchant names, account names, account numbers, IBANs, card numbers and notes are never included, and neither is your name, email address or any other contact detail. Requests are authenticated with an anonymous Firebase identity — no email address, no name, no Apple ID. Answers are cached on your device so the app does not re-ask the same question, and when the backend is unavailable the app answers with its own built-in, on-device responses instead.

AI answers are general, informational commentary on figures you entered yourself. They are not financial, investment, tax or legal advice.

Analytics

Money Mate AI uses Firebase Analytics to understand which screens and features are used. Analytics events are deliberately stripped before they are sent:

• Monetary values are replaced with a coarse range bucket instead of the amount itself.
• Merchant names, transaction titles, notes, account names and account numbers are never attached to an event.

The app does no advertising tracking, shows no ads, does not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA) and does not ask for App Tracking Transparency permission, because it does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

Third-Party Services

• Apple StoreKit — subscription purchases and entitlement status. Payment is handled entirely by Apple; the app never sees your card details.
• Firebase and Google Cloud — anonymous authentication, App Check, the AI proxy Cloud Functions (hosted in the europe-west1 region) and analytics.
• OpenAI — generates AI responses from the aggregated summary described above, and only when you have turned AI data sharing on.

OpenAI acts as a data processor for Money Mate AI and uses the summary solely to generate the reply. Under the OpenAI API data usage policies, data submitted through the API is not used to train or improve OpenAI's models. Money Mate AI sends each request with storage disabled, so the summary is not retained in an OpenAI account; abuse-monitoring logs may be held for up to 30 days, or longer where required by law. We have reviewed these terms and consider the protection OpenAI provides for this data to be equivalent to the protection described in this policy. Money Mate AI does not sell your personal information and does not share it with data brokers or advertisers.

Security

• Optional app lock with Face ID, Touch ID or your device passcode.
• Values kept in the iOS Keychain are stored with this device only accessibility and are readable only while the device is unlocked.
• Firebase App Check is enforced on the backend so the AI functions only answer requests coming from a genuine copy of the app.

Notifications

Bill reminders, credit card due-date reminders, subscription reminders, daily limit alerts and report notifications are local notifications, scheduled on your device by the app. Their content is not sent to a server, and you can turn them off in the app's notification settings or in iPhone Settings.

Subscription and Free Trial

Money Mate AI offers a short card-free trial so you can look around before attaching a payment method, and Apple's own introductory free period on the monthly and yearly plans.

For the card-free trial the app stores an anonymous install identifier and the trial start date, in the Keychain and in a server-side record that only the backend can read. This record contains no name, no email address, no Apple ID and no financial data — it exists only so the trial cannot be restarted indefinitely. Purchases, renewals and cancellations are handled by Apple.

Retention and Deletion

Records stay on your device until you delete them. The app's Delete Data screen (Settings → Delete Data) removes your local records, preferences and pending notifications after a two-step confirmation in which you type the word DELETE. Deleting the app from your iPhone also removes its local data. Your AI data-sharing choice is one of the preferences it clears, so the app returns to asking before anything is shared.

Children

Money Mate AI is a personal budgeting tool for adults and is not directed at children. It should be used only where permitted by local law and App Store age requirements.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
